One boy’s arms full of barley loaves
became food for a multitude.
Was that sign enough?
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
you are looking for me not because you saw signs
but because you ate the loaves and were filled.”
O Father, you have set your seal on your Beloved Son.
The bread he has broken has made us one.
We give you thanks for this miracle he has done
the people he gathers from the rising to the setting sun.
Give us hymns in our times that we may sing as we sleep.
May history and your will rhyme and in time let us keep
Our part of the bargain, that is no gain unless wheat
pours through our veins and manna moves our feet.
Thus it is you Lord we come to in mystic sight
You treble our grains as we walk in flight
’Tis roots out of the the very air that bear inner light
You the bread are the life that constant motion turns right.
